What is Waterless Printing? / High Quality

In waterless printing, unlike in wet printing, there is no problem with water making the ink smudge. This means that waterless printing also eliminates the problem of color change caused by the dot gain which is an inevitable feature of wet printing. Each individual dot is reproduced clearly, giving a clean, high-resolution printing finish. Even on uneven surfaces such as high-quality paper, matte paper, or traditional Japanese paper, dots are reliably reproduced as per the data as round shapes. For cleaner and more accurate printing, waterless printing is the answer.

Reproduction quality of dots

Dots should normally be reproduced as round shapes but can be thrown out of shape by the smudging of the ink and uneven paper surfaces. Compared to waterless printing, this inevitably produces a blurred quality in the image as a whole.

The round dots on the film are reproduced accurately on the paper. Even on high-quality paper, matte paper, or other uneven surfaces, the same clean result is achieved.

Reproduction quality of text

Because resolution is inferior to that of waterless printing, when the image is enlarged, such inconsistencies become obvious.

Even text not ordinarily legible with the naked eye can be seen to be clearly reproduced when enlarged.
